A brief chronology of the milestones that traced the arc of Devi Sahai Jindal's life and work.

1. Early years

   Born in Nalwa, Hisar

   Born to Netramji and Chandrawali Devi Jindal in the village of Nalwa in Hisar district, Haryana.

2. 1952

   First steel venture in Howrah

   Along with his brother Bhavi Chand Jindal, founded a steel manufacturing setup in Howrah producing Mild Steel, ERW, and Black Galvanised pipes and tubes.

3. 1960s

   Expansion of the Jindal Group

   The steel business scaled across India, laying the foundation for what would become one of the country's leading industrial families.

4. 1971

   Honoured with the Padma Shri

   The Government of India conferred the Padma Shri — the nation's fourth-highest civilian award — for his contribution to trade and industry.

5. Later years

   A legacy split across groups

   The founding enterprise later evolved into the DSJ, BCJ, OPJ and DPJ groups, each carrying forward a branch of the family's industrial vision.
